I am now so ashamed that I went to Paris and did not visit Didier Ludot. Quel dommage! The boutique is one of the most famous in the world for vintage haute couture as well as other amazing vintage pieces. From Jacques Fath to Chanel, you can find anything imaginable there from as far back in the past as the late 1930′s. Some of the pieces have never been worn (thanks to the large wardrobes of the women who owned the pieces), but most things will set you pack a pretty penny. Several. Euros to be more exact.

The little black dress is a wardrobe essential for every woman. It can be strapless, long-sleeve, simple in cotton, adorned in sequins and so much more. You can never go wrong with wearing one and you can dress it up and dress it down: however you see fit! In the The Little Black Dress: Vintage Treasure , Monsieur Ludot shows his amazing collection of vintage LBDs. From Balmain to Gaultier, he has it all and photographs of each are shown alongside photos of our fashion icons rocking similar styles including Catherine Deneuve, Sophia Loren, Edith Piaf, Marilyn Monroe, Paloma Picasso and many more....

Couture Allure Vintage Fashion: Little Black Dresses - 1956

Project Runway's Anya is getting on my nerves.  She has a great eye, but without the schooling in design, she clearly can't construct a garment that can be worn right from her sewing machine.  Granted, I'm sure there are plenty of designers who aren't great seamstresses.  But you have to have some idea of how a garment is constructed so you know what fabric will and will not do.  And the wearer has to be able to get in and out of it without glue or scissors!

I give her kudos for being so gutsy to even go on this show with so little sewing experience, but the lack of obvious construction know-how it starting to show, imho. (The fact that she couldn't get the dress on her model at first and didn't think about a closure method for easy dressing?! Augh!) But then again, I've been pretty disappointed by the last handful of PR seasons, and feel like it's just become kind of mediocre.

The first semester of Fashion Design in college weeds out a lot of people when they realize that designing isn't handing off a drawing for someone else to make. You have to have an intimate understanding of construction, draping, patternmaking, fabrics, and production because if any one of those aspects are off, you aren't going to produce or sell anything. Even if others are doing it for you, you have to know how it's done so you don't waste time and resources on an impossible dress. A show following real designers would be mind blowing. And those dresses you showed are simply phenomenal. Perfect examples of unitizing all the aforementioned skills with an expert hand.
