WOMEN IN BUSINESS: Sherrell keeps love of fashion
‘Beauty is only skin deep,” Janice Sherrell’s grandmother taught her. “How a person is on the inside will portray on the outside.”
Sherrell, owner of Remona’s LaDiva Boutique, continues a legacy of fashion that began with her grandmother.
“My grandmother created and cut her own patterns from newspaper,” she said. “I tried to follow her instructions.”
Sherrell is a Gadsden native. After graduating from high school in 1972, she pursued a career in New Jersey as a paralegal after obtaining a degree in criminal justice from Kean College.
But she never strayed from her love of fashion. She has designed clothes, from prom gowns and bridesmaid dresses to choir attire and marching uniforms. And she has coordinated a multitude of fashion shows.
“I love fashion, and I love coordinating shows and simply having fun,” she said.
Sherrell came back to Gadsden to care for her grandmother, Bular Sherrell, who died in 2003.
