Don Peters, 69

Don Leonard Peters of Twin Falls, Idaho, formerly of Grand Rapids, went to his home on Thursday, October 27, 2011. He was greeted by his parents, his parents-in-law and other family members as well as Chip, Dale and Taz and many cats that he hated to love.

Don was born August 9, 1942, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Leonard and Ruth (Loughmiller) Peters, the second of five children. He attended and graduated from Filer High School in 1960 and went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy that same year. When he retired as an IC Chief in June of 1994, he had served his country for 30 years both active duty and reserve. He married Kathleen Folkertsma in April of 1968 in National City, Calif. After adopting her daughter, they had another daughter and son. They were divorced and he married Audrey Lewis in January of 1982 in San Diego, Calif. Together they raised Audrey’s nephew. When he retired, they moved to Idaho and lived in the house where he and his siblings were born and raised. He was a gentleman farmer — renting out the acreage to his brothers to graze their cattle. He was an avid steel tip dart player, loved to dance, pan for gold, watch drag racing and play cribbage. He also was learning how to home brew and working on making a hot rod out of a 1936 Chevy pickup.
