Visiting mayor, local leaders discuss sister-city partnership: Parañaque's ...

Last Saturday, Florencio "Jun" Bernabe Jr., mayor of Paraññaque, metro Manila in the Philippines, was the guest of honor for the Metro-Manila Association of Guam's dinner reception at the Kahida Room, located at the Guam Plaza Hotel.

Bernabe and his wife, Girlie Bernabe, were on island for vacation, but upon hearing of their arrival, Metro-Manila Association of Guam President Emelio Uy, who is originally is from Parañaque, wanted to organize an event to welcome the Bernabes.

Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio and newly arrived to Guam Philippine Consul Edgar Tomas Auxilian joined Bernabe for parts of the evening along with other notable members of Guam's Filipino community.

As guest of honor, Bernabe talked about efforts made in his city, and community leaders also discussed forming a sisterhood agreement between the city of Parañaque and Guam.

Bernabe says he while he's traveled through the island many times before, he didn't have the opportunity to stay for an extended vacation, although he had always wanted to. Bernabe says shares close ties with Guam through Dennis Rodriguez Sr., father of current Guam Sen. Dennis Rodriguez Jr.

Second, I try not to take photos or do a post based on one visit, unless I feel we tasted a large proportion of the menu offered, or it is a foreign restaurant that I do not plan on returning to soon, and third, I never identify myself to the chef, wanting an experience just like any other diner would likely have. La Girolle was just 2.5 weeks old when we visited, I brought a camera anyway, and the chef has been a reader of marketmanila.com for several years, and used to email me while he was working at several starred restaurants in Paris. So I let the chef know I was there for dinner, and we paid for everything we ate and drank. He never asked me to write about the place, I chose to do so totally on my own. And I only met the chef in person that evening at the restaurant. So let me say this up front, consider this post the equivalent of an amuse bouche, a pre-appetizer as it were, as I suspect the chef has a lot more up his sleeve, and I have only lightly grazed on his repertoire....
