Walking the streets in scary costumes
Will you be doing something with your kids for Halloween on October 31?
We’ll be joining our Playgroup to walk with our children round the streets of Pinelands in Cape Town (well, we’ll go round the block, feed them hotdogs and hustle them home as its actually a school night).
We’ve done this every year for a while now - mainly because there are quite a few houses in Pinelands that enter into the spirit of the thing, and have sweets on hand for trick or treat.
Our kids dress up and we walk with them - all in all a pleasant evening, and the children regard it as one of the revered highlights of our Playgroup year.
But why are we doing it at all, I wonder. Personally, I do it because it makes my son happy and on the surface it’s a bit of harmless fun. My sister likes it because of the Misrule flavour it has - the time when things are turned on their heads and little kids walk the streets to take things from captive adults.
